Ted
Brennan was elected to the Town Council for a one-year term on
April
16, 2002. During this first term, Ted serves as the
liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission, is the Water
and Sewer Commissioner, and has served as President Pro
Tempore of the Town Council in the absence of the President.
Ted wrote the legislation which established the Emmitsburg
Water Committee and is now in the process of building a
community coalition to fight drug addiction in the community.
Ted is author of a monthly column called 'View
From the Hill' in which he shares his insights on the
actions of the Federal Government and its impact residents in
Emmitsburg.
Ted was born in Washington, D.C. on
September 15, 1968. Soon after his birth, his parents, Joe and
Annette Brennan of Gettysburg, moved their growing family to
Olney, Maryland where Ted spent most of his life with his two
brothers and sister. He moved to his East Main Street home in
Emmitsburg in December of 1995 after he married his wife, the
former Stephanie Hess.
Ted is a 1986 graduate of Our Lady of
Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Maryland and a 1990
graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and International
Relations. During his college years, Ted was enrolled in the
Naval ROTC program, where he was selected to become a Marine
Corps officer. Unfortunately, a medical condition prevented
him from continuing a career in the Marines.
After returning home, Ted found a
career in Washington, first working as legal assistant in a
major law firm and then working for the American Legislative
Exchange Council, a state-level advocacy group. In 1994, Ted
began working in the office of Congressman Ballenger, a
Republican from North Carolina. There he served in several
capacities, first as a legislative Assistant, then moving up
the ranks to legislative director, senior policy advisor and
press secretary. Today, Ted serves as the Professional Staff
Member for the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee of the House
International Relations Committee. He assists the
Subcommittee's Chairman in covering Latin American and
Caribbean issues and conducting oversight over U.S. foreign
policy in the region.
In Emmitsburg, Ted has served on the
Board of Appeals and for three years as the Chairman of the Planning
and Zoning Commission. He is married and has four
children, Emeline, Erin, Joseph and Nathan.
