(4/9) For an evening of live jazz, fine wine, art, great food, and good company, the public is invited to the 11th Annual PGL Soirée at the Hauser Estate Winery on Friday, April 25 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Project Gettysburg-León, a 29-year-old sister-city partnership between Gettysburg College, the Gettysburg community, and the city of León and surrounding communities in Nicaragua.
Tickets are $40 when purchased in advance and include two glasses of wine and a light-fare dinner. One raffle ticket for an assortment of artwork and fine crafts from local and Nicaraguan artists comes with each ticket. Local artist Nanette Hatzes will be drawing portraits at the event for a donation!
Live music will be provided by the Ken Jankura Trio featuring vocalist and bassist Jankura along with jazz guitarist Joe Dennison and Bret Crawford on saxophone. Jankura and Dennison play frequently throughout Central Pennsylvania and are featured regularly at the California Café in Carlisle. Crawford is on
the physics faculty of Gettysburg College and plays regularly at Pomona’s Café in Biglerville
Proceeds for the evening will go toward sustaining Taller Artistico Xuchialt, one of the projects PGL helps support in León. This neighborhood art school provides art instruction to children who have little or no access to the arts. Students receive instruction in the indigenous arts of Nicaragua including
primitivista painting, drawing, folkloric dance, and music. The school also brings the arts to the community, including cultural performances of music and dance. Students grow to become the all-volunteer teachers of the school, preserving their indigenous arts. Notable to the local area, Taller Artistico Xuchialt is very active in PGL’s mission of sharing cultures through visiting Artist in
Residence programs to the Gettysburg area and hosting workshops for visiting PGL delegations.
The Hauser Estate Winery is located on a hill overlooking Adams County’s beautiful orchard country. The address is 410 Cashtown Road (Arendtsville-Cashtown Road) across from the Round Barn, west of Gettysburg, and north of the village of Cashtown.
Tickets may be purchased online at https://commerce.cashnet.com/ProjectLeon.
They also will be available at the door for $50 each. Additional raffle tickets are available for $5 each or five tickets for $20. For more information on the Soirée contact the Center for Public Service at 337-6490 or by email at pglgburg@gmail.com.
