(11/16) If you’ve admired the crafty gingerbread houses at the Adams County Arts Council’s annual Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Mart, sponsored by Kennie’s Markets, you may have wondered, "What happens to the gingerbread houses after this year’s December 1 and 2 celebration?"
The public may bid on houses as part of a new addition this year, a Gingerbread Preview and Auction, on Thursday, November 30, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with live auction by auctioneer Jimmy Peters at 6 p.m. Sponsored by The Christmas Haus, the preview is free to the public, includes wine and refreshments, with reservations requested by November 27 to 717-334-5006. The preview also
features an array of holiday gift baskets up for silent bidding.
"Gingerbread houses have become popular items for people to buy for their office or home or to donate to a school or senior living facility," says Chris Glatfelter, Arts Council Executive Director. "They are on a maximum 24-inch by 24-inch base, so they don’t take up much table space, but really are a unique attraction. We’re putting the business entries up for bid at the
Thursday night preview. Other entries are up for silent bid throughout the Celebration."
Funds raised benefit the Arts Council and its community programs. Partial proceeds benefit the Student Emergency Assistance Fund of Harrisburg Area Community College’s Gettysburg Campus, site of the eighth annual Gingerbread Celebration and Holiday Mart.
The Gingerbread Celebration in partnership with the Gettysburg Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College, is also underwritten by The Christmas Haus, Adams Electric Cooperative, Inc., Goin’ Postal, and Just Kids at Gettysburg Dental Associates.
Location is HACC’s Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg. Visit the Celebration during the hours on Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to admire the gingerbread houses, shop the Holiday Mart for one-of-a-kind gifts, enjoy children’s activities, and put in a bid on your favorite house! Admission and parking are free.
