Gallery Stroll’ to feature works of art
(10/16)
A variety of local arts and crafts will be featured at this year’s Main Street Holiday Gallery Stroll in Thurmont on November 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. Thurmont Main Street Manager, Vicki Grinder, said (as of October 16) the event sponsors are seeking additional artisans who may wish to participate. “Painting, pottery, sculpting, homemade jewelry, any type of art is welcome.”
Grinder said benefits for the town from the Gallery Stroll include showcasing the town’s Main Street businesses and bringing people downtown to support them. One of the highlights of the event will be the unveiling of Maryland artist Rebecca Pearl’s painting of Cozy Restaurant, a landmark eatery that closed its doors forever in June, after 85 years of operation. The Cozy was reportedly the
oldest, continuously operating, family-owned restaurant in the state of Maryland.
Pearl told the News-Journal, “I am painting the Cozy the way it has looked for the last 40 years.” She said the painting “contains some of the memorable symbols; the gazebo, wishing well, covered bridge, dog house and caboose. It has an evening mood with a holiday feeling.”
The Cozy painting will be part of an exhibit of her paintings to be unveiled at an upcoming event, the location of which has yet to be announced, but will be “somewhere on Main Street.” Other paintings that will be featured at the event include the “Lewis Confectionery, the southeast corner, which is now Thurmont Optician and Trinity Church next to the Timeless Trends boutique.” Kenya-born,
Emmitsburg area resident and artist Yemi will have his Thurmont art, along with other pieces on display, and of local artist Gnarly Artly.
Grinder said, “Wine, food, entertainment and much more” will also be available during the stroll. A portion of the proceeds of the Main Street Holiday Gallery Stroll are going to be used to benefit the Lyons Club of Thurmont.
