(8/10) Although a sense of normalcy has since returned to communities, COVID-19 is still prevalent in Frederick County, looking no further than the Town of Woodsboro, whose August town council meetings had to be called off.
The regularly scheduled 2nd Tuesday of the month town meeting, which was to have occurred on August 9, was cancelled due to council members and employees contracting COVID-19, according to Burgess Heath Barnes.
The meeting was rescheduled to August 16 to given everyone time to recover as well as meet the recommend isolation time period. However, the August 16 meeting was not able to have a quorum due to the absence of commissions Dana Crum and Jesse Case. Voting meetings require three of four council members to be present and without a quorum, the council cannot perform votes to approve even meeting minutes from the previous month.
The council was still able to hear updates and comments from the public.
The absences of Crum and Case was due in part to the new date rescheduling not being able to fit every council member’s availability, according to Barnes.
Barnes reminded everyone that the town’s community wide celebration, Woodsboro Days will be held in just two short months in October. Entertainment, food trucks, a brewery, and winery, along with about 20 vendors have all been booked, he said.
Bigger and better than ever by popular demand, this year’s two-day Woodsboro Day’s will be held October 15 and 16.
Woodsboro Days was started in 2013 with the Woodsboro Historical Society 5K that marked the first time in approximately 25 years that a town wide celebration was held to recognize all things Woodsboro. Based on the success of the initial event, the celebration became an annual event to promote the history of the town. More details about the festivities can be found by reaching Barnes at hbarnes@woodsboro.org or calling 301-401-7164.
"I think it is going to be an exciting time," he said.
The next Woodsboro Town meeting is scheduled for September 13.
