The Obituary of George
W. Weikert

George W. Weikert, Civil War veteran
and well known farmer, died at his
home in Freedom Township Tuesday
evening at 7:27 after a two weeks'
illness from pneumonia, aged 83
years 1 month, and 24 days.
Mr. Weikert lived in Gettysburg for a number of
years previous to the time he moved to his farm in Freedom
Township and for several years acted as the Gettysburg Chief of
Police. During the Civil War he fought with Coles Cavalry.
Mr. Weikert was a member of Company C, First
Battalion Cavalry. He enlisted August 27, 1861 and was discharged
May 22, 1862, for disability. He was a member of the Corporal
Skelly Post, Number 9, since its organization.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the following
daughters, Mrs. Alice Arendt, Railroad Street; Mrs. Lydia Hoffman,
Greenmont, and Mrs. Mary Kohn, Williamsport. Two Sisters, Mrs.
Edward Baer and Mrs. Thomas Flaharty both of Gettysburg, also
survive.
Funeral Saturday
morning, meeting at the house at ten o'clock, Rev. J. B. Baker and
Rev. E. E. Stockslager, officiating.
Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
