Mrs. Helen Stunkle

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Stunkle, 95, of Sixes Road, Emmitsburg, died Thursday, April 7 at her residence with her loving caregivers by her side.

Born July 28, 1909 in Emmitsburg, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Allen and Sallie Catherine Baumgardner Valentine. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Stunkle.

Mrs. Stunkle was a member of Keysville Lutheran Church where she was the oldest member. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter No. 7 Hyattsville.

She is survived by two children, Sara A. Steward of Laurel and James Stunkle of Gaithersburg; six grandchildren, Wilford M. Steward Jr., Dorothea H. Lewis, James E. Steward, James H. Stunkle II, Charles E. Stunkle, and Paul J. Stunkle; two sisters, Rachel V. Myers (Dennis) of Westminster and Agnes V. Zimmerman (Kenneth) of Frederick; sister-in-law, Arabelle Valentine of Emmitsburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence S. Valentine, Jacob E. Valentine, Ralph Valentine and Edgar A. Valentine Jr.; and sister, Mary E. Gartrell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11 from the Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg with her pastor, Deacon Charles E. Barnhart Jr. officiating assisted by the Rev. Jill Seagle and the Rev. James Russell.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at the Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg.
