Mr. David Allen O'Donoghue, 86, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2009, from liver failure at Charlestown Retirement Community, Catonsville. He was born on May 22, 1923, at Stone Lodge Farm, Emmitsburg, the son of David Allen O'Donoghue and Dorothy Mary Gloninger. After graduating from Emmitsburg High School, he then attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington in the Pacific. He was discharged in 1946.

The former Westview Park resident went to work in 1963 for the now-defunct Korvette's, a discount department store, and managed the company's furniture and carpet warehouse in Jessup until 1977.

From 1977 until 1981, Mr. O'Donoghue worked for the company in Mahwah, N.J., before returning to Baltimore. He retired as their warehouse manager.

"He held two other jobs while working for Korvette's," said a daughter, Patricia Swann of Virginia Beach, Va.

He also sold furniture at the old Levinson & Kline Inc. furniture store at Monument and Chester streets, and owned and operated an upholstery business.

He later established the House Doctor, a handyman business, which he owned and operated until 2002.

A resident of Charlestown since 2002, Mr. O'Donoghue was active in the retirement community's Treasure Sale, which raised funds to assist residents.

A memorial service was held at Our Lady of Angels Chapel, 715 Maiden Choice Lane.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Gloria Dulom; and six daughters, Marylucia Hall Eco of Bethesda, Clare Anne Grimes of Towson, Elizabeth Carol Chang of Princeton, N.J., Peggy O'Donoghue of Arbutus, Joanne Griesser of Glenelg, and Patricia Swann of Virginia Beach, Va.

Also surviving are two brothers, John Jeremiah of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Louis Burk of Frederick; and three sisters, Roseanna O'Donoghue of Taneytown, Theresa Virginia Kelbaugh of Austin, Texas, and Katherine O'Donoghue Lawson.
